Projects Applied Technology

Farms: Work with local leaders to teach people how to provide for their futures by growing and maintaining a farm. Whether it be a small pig farm, chicken farm, or a vegetable farm, individuals can obtain not only food from their efforts but also have something to sell at the markets to provide income for their families. The challenge as a volunteer is teaching people the value of not consuming what they have grown, before they are able to replace what they consume.

Stoves: Many of the poorer homes at Lake Atitlan have no chimney. Instead they have an open fire that fills the home with smoke. Very simple and inexpensive technology can be used to confine the fire and expel the smoke outdoors, thereby, improving the safety and the air quality of the home. Volunteers can help build these stoves.
