Projects Teaching

School systems in Guatemala are very lacking in resources. Families that can not afford private school, must enroll their children in the public schools. The Guatemalan government only appropriates funds for the salaries of teachers at public schools that teach math, reading, and writing. There are no extras like arts, music, physical education, and foreign languages. Volunteers are able to fill those teaching positions and add to the school curriculum. Volunteers can also tutor children that are struggling.

Volunteers Around the World is also working to bring college courses to the adults of Lake Atitlan. We are working with universities in cities near Lake Atitlan to provide professors. Volunteers can provide classes in computers, English, and other such subjects to round out adult education.
